The total amount of time that has passed since an individual’s birth is referred to as his or her chronological age. This can be expressed in terms of the number of years, months, and days a person has lived up to the present (current date).

This chronological method is one of the most common and widely used methods for calculating a person’s age.

How to Use

  • To determine the chronological age, enter the person’s birthdate in the first box.
  • In the second box, enter the date as of which you want to calculate the age. By default, the date is set to the current date (Today).
  • The calculator will display your age in years, months, and days.

How to Find the Chronological Age of a Person?

If you know how to subtract, you can easily determine a person’s chronological age. You can easily calculate a person’s age by subtracting the birth date from the current date. We have solved one simple example below that will show you how to find someone’s age step by step.

Example

We have solved a simple example in a step by step tutorial to find out the chronological age of a person manually without using any age calculator tool.

Q. Find the chronological age of a person as of the current date, May 9, 2023. Assume the birth date of a person is May 28, 1995.

Solution :

Finding the chronological age is not as challenging as it first appears, but you must be careful when doing the calculations because we are simultaneously working with years, months, and days.

Current Date : 9 / 5 / 2023
Birth Date : 28 / 5 / 1995

To make the subtraction process simpler, we will format them as years, months, and days.

Current Date : 2023 – 5 – 9
Birth Date : 1995 – 5 – 28

The dates should now be arranged in a table format, just as we would for regular subtraction.

Place the current date and the birthdate one below the other in a systematic format. Always remember that since we are deducting the birthdate from the current date, the current date should always be at the top and the birthdate at the bottom. The above figure shows how to format the dates correctly for the subtraction operation.

The day column will be the first to be discussed. 28 cannot be subtracted from 9 as shown in the above figure, so we must borrow from the neighbouring column (months).

We’ll take one month from the months column and put it in the days column. Because one month has 30 days (as is customary), we will add 30 to the days column. So, after borrowing, 5 months becomes 4 months and 9 days becomes 39 days after addition. We can now deduct 28 from 39 (39 – 28 = 11 days).

Moving on to the months column, we cannot subtract 5 from 4, so we must borrow from the years column.

We must borrow one year from the years column and add it to the months column. Because a year equals 12 months, we will add 12 months in the months column. 4 months will become 16 months after the addition. We can now do the subtraction (16 – 5 = 11 months).

Now proceed to the year column. Because the top number is greater than the bottom numbers, we can easily perform the subtraction (2022 – 1995 = 27 years).

After subtracting the birth date (May 28, 1995) from the current age (May 9, 2023), we get the chronological age as 27 years, 11 months, and 11 days.

Please keep in mind that we are using 1 month = 30 days in this method. As a result, you may notice a difference of 1-3 days less or more. However, this method accurately determines the number of years and months that have passed.
