Add Time Calculator [hrs:min:sec]

Add time calculator makes it easier to calculate the addition of two times. You have to enter both time values in the tool below in the format of ‘hrs:min:sec’.

Calculating time addition can be time consuming if you don’t have the proper tool or calculator.

You may have to perform time calculations as part of your job, for example, to determine how many hours a particular person worked in a given week.

In these situations, our time calculator is a useful instrument that makes the addition of time simple and completes your task in a matter of seconds.

How to Use Add Time Calculator

  • Our add time calculator has a simple three-step method for calculating the addition of time.
  • The first set of time should be entered in the calculator’s first box using the format “hrs:min:sec.”
  • To input the second set of time, repeat the above procedure for the second box.
  • The result of adding the two time values will be shown in the third box.
  • For both sets of time values, be aware to enter the values in all three time units (hrs:min:sec). In the event that your time value contains only hrs, min or sec value, you may input 0 (zero) in that circumstance. For example, 12:18:00, 16:00:30, 00:25:59, 0:0:17, etc.

Relation Between Time Units

As we all know, time is a continuous measurement that can be measured by various units for different periods of time. The most commonly used time measurement units are seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, and years.

The relationship between the most widespread time units is shown below.

  • 1 second = 1,000 milliseconds
  • 1 minute = 60 seconds
  • 1 hour = 60 minutes
  • 1 day = 24 hours
  • 1 week = 7 days
  • 1 month = 30 or 31 days (depending on the month), or 4 weeks
  • 1 year = 12 months, or 365 days (or 366 days in a leap year)

Examples of Adding Time Together

We developed this super tool just for you, but if you are unable to access our calculator tool and need to add the time manually, don’t get confused between hours and minutes.

Below, we’ve provided two examples that walk you through the process of adding various times together step by step.

Example :

1. Add up time : 3 h 45 min 20 sec and 13 h 66 min.

Solution :

We will put each time unit separately and perform the addition.

hours = 3 + 13 = 16 h
minutes = 45 + 66 = 111 min
seconds = 20 + 0 = 20 sec

Since the minutes value is higher than 60, we can convert it to hours by subtracting 60 from the minutes value and adding it to the hours value. The hours time is increased by one for every 60 minutes removed from minutes value.

111 – 60 = 51 min

Since 51 min is currently less than 60 min, we can continue to use 51 minutes, and after adding 1 hour (60 min that we subtracted), the value of the hour becomes 17.

The final outcome is as follows after adding both time values:

17 h 51 min 20 sec.

You can always use the time addition tool mentioned above to check the result to make sure it is accurate.

Example :

2. Add time : 15 h 19 min 14 sec, 5 h 88 min, 3h 25 min 85 sec.

Solution :

hours = 15 + 5 + 3 = 23 h
minutes = 19 + 88 + 25 = 132 min
seconds = 14 + 85 = 99 sec

Now in this case both the minutes and seconds values are greater than 60. So we have to subtract 60 from both the minutes and seconds value to make it less than 60.

seconds = 99 – 60 = 39 sec (less than 60, all good).

Add 1 to minutes value as we subtracted 60 sec.

minutes = 132 + 1 = 133 min
minutes = 133 – 60 = 73 min (value is still greater than 60, so repeat the process)
minutes = 73 – 60 = 13 min
minutes = 13 min (less than 60, all good).

We have subtracted 60 minutes 2 times so we can add 2 to the hours value.

hours = 23 + 2 = 25 h

The final outcome is as follows after adding both time values:

25 h 13 min 39 sec.
